In any earthly endeavor, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk aren’t competitors or foes, but when it comes to outer space, they’re bitter rivals.
Blue Origin, Bezos’ rocket firm, was founded in 2000, whereas SpaceX was founded in 2002 by Musk.
Even when the two reconnected for dinner two years later, things were growing tense.
Are Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk enemies?
When SpaceX attempted to obtain exclusive use of a NASA launch pad in 2013, Blue Origin filed a formal objection with the government (SpaceX eventually won the right to take over the pad.)
Months later, the two firms were involved in a patent dispute, and Bezos and Musk went public with their feud, exchanging barbs on Twitter.
Since then, their antagonism has erupted on occasion, but matters reached a head in 2021, when Blue Origin filed multiple court papers against SpaceX and Musk issued a barrage of public criticism.
