Easter is historically celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox.

Easter 2022 will be held on Sunday, April 17. Easter, on the other hand, takes place on a different date every year.

Eastern Orthodox Christianity, which uses the Julian calendar, celebrates Orthodox Easter on a Sunday between April 4 and May 8 each year.

Despite the fact that Easter usually falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25 in Western Christianity, which follows the Gregorian calendar, Easter Sunday and its surrounding festivities, such as Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday, are considered “moveable feasts.”

According to different Protestant Christian denominations, Easter Sunday marks the beginning of Eastertide or the Easter Season.

Pentecost Sunday, the 50th day of Easter, marks the end of the season.

Why is Easter Sunday not a public holiday in the U.S?

It is not a public holiday because it always occurs on a Sunday, which is a non-working day for federal and state personnel, it is not a federal holiday.
Many businesses that are regularly open on Sunday will be closed for Easter.
