Sir David Anthony Andrew Amess was a British politician who represented Southend West in the House of Commons from 1997 until his death in 2021.
From 1983 until 1997, he was the Member of Parliament for Basildon. He was a Conservative Party member.
Ali Harbi, David Amess’ purported killer, was charged with murder and plotting terrorist activities under the Terrorism Act 2006 on October 21. His trial was set to begin in March 2022.

Sir David Amess murder: How did Ali Harbi Ali kill MP?
Amess was stabbed numerous times at his constituency surgery at Belfairs Methodist Church Hall in Leigh-on-Sea on October 15, 2021.
He was treated at the site but died as a result of his injuries. The Metropolitan Police later declared Amess’s death a terrorist incident.
Ali Harbi Ali, a 25-year-old British citizen of Somali heritage, was charged with manslaughter at the scene and later imprisoned under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Ali later disclosed that the murder was motivated by Amess’s support for attacks on Syria.
