Fred Upton, full name Frederick Stephen Upton is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for Michigan’s 6th congressional district since 1987.

Upton was born on April 23, 1953 (age 68 years) in St. Joseph, Michigan, United States.

He is married to his lovely wife,  Amey Miller since 1983 and blessed with two kids,  Meg Upton, and Stephen Upton.

Upon is a member of the Republican Party and happens to be the only U.S. representative in history to vote to impeach two presidents – he voted for the impeachment of Bill Clinton in 1998 and the second impeachment of Donald Trump in 2021.

Is Fred Upton running for reelection in 2022?

Upon was one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump. However, on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, he announced that he will not seek reelection.

Upton is the fourth to announce his retirement, following Ohio Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, and New York Rep. John Katko.

Why is Fred Upton retiring?

According to him, this point in his life is the last, “Even the best stories have the last chapter. This is it for me,” Upton said.

He went on to reveal that it is better to leave office better than he found it hence won’t do anything to act likewise.

“As a former Boy Scout, I believe in leaving the campground better than one found it,” he said.
