
Eugene Melnyk, the owner of the Ottawa Senators, died on Monday at the age of 62, according to the franchise.
Melnyk bought the Senators in 2003 and led them to the Stanley Cup Final in 2007, as well as the Eastern Conference Final in 2017.
Melnyk also owns Ottawa’s AHL club Belleville Senators, as well as the Ontario Hockey League’s Toronto St. Michael’s Majors. He was a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame while he wasn’t on the ice.
