
Dr. Paul Farmer, who died abruptly at the age of 62 is still yet to be buried.
The family has not published the details concerning his funeral.
Farmer was the co-founded PIH in 1987 and oversaw 18,000 employees in 12 countries, including Haiti, Rwanda, Peru, and Sierra Leone.
He is a strong supporter of social justice and the development of local capacity, and he believes that medical treatment is insufficient if people are sick because they are hungry and destitute.

Farmer’s desire to start PIH began while he was 23 years old and lived in Haiti.
He worked for a Haitian charity before attending Harvard Medical School, having studied anthropology at Duke University in North Carolina.
It was a country ravaged by decades of colonial power, exploitation, and poverty.
Farmer was the second of six children born in North Adams, Massachusetts.
His mother, Ginny, worked in a supermarket and his father, Paul, was a teacher.
They were a free-spirited family that were encouraged to take chances and pursue their aspirations.
