
Joel Fischman, who first booked Penn & Teller at Bally’s in 1993, died of cancer in Las Vegas on Thursday morning. He was 70 years old.
Fischman was also a consulting producer for Penn & Teller’s production show until his death, and he helped secure the magic duo’s deal at the Rio in 2001.
In the mid-1980s, Fischman was working at Trump Plaza and signed Penn & Teller as an opening act for the Temptations and B.B. King.
Fischman then moved to Bally’s as vice president of entertainment for six years.
His decision to bring Penn & Teller to the hotel’s Celebrity Theater for periodic headlining shows led to the P&T show at the Rio.
