Paul Smithwick was member of the Smithwick brewing dynasty and staunch supporter of his native Kilkenny
Mr Smithwick was the ninth generation of his family’s brewing business, which was started in 1710.
He was also a former lawyer and director of several Northern Irish firms, as well as a heritage activist.
In 2016, he was granted an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year’s honors list for his services to British-Irish relations, for which he co-founded the Bonds of Friendship organization.
