Vincent Simmons is a former American inmate who was condemned to jail for the attempted aggravated rape of 14-year-old twin sisters Karen and Sharon Sanders.
Simmons has been incarcerated for over 44 years for a crime he did not commit.
In 1977 he was arrested however he is now free after serving 44 out of a 100-year sentence given him at the Angola State Prison.

Karen Sanders and Sharon Sanders lived in Marksville. They are known to have reported to their families that they had been raped by a black man two weeks before, on May 9, 1997
The girls talked with police, describing a violent and unpleasant encounter. Sharon stated that she had bled, and Karen stated that Simmons had brandished a knife at her.
Simmons was arrested and taken into an interrogation room by the police days later while he was walking alone.
According to Simmons at the time, medical findings, which were not supplied to the defence by prosecutors, show that the girls were not injured.
The jury of 11 White men and one Black woman never saw the reports or told about the girls’ first statements of their assailant as an indistinguishable Black guy.
Simmons was immediately convicted by the jury.
