Greta Ferui Weinfeld was the head of architecture at the University of Sarajevo and a Bosnian academic.
Greta was known as the first Bosnian woman to survive Auschwitz and the only person in the world to survive both Auschwitz and the Sarajevo Siege.
Ferusic, who was born in northern Serbia in 1924, was sent to Auschwitz in 1944 alongside many family members who were eventually killed at the Polish concentration camp. She was her family’s sole survivor.
Ferusic received the Auschwitz Cross, a Polish decoration recognizing survivors of Nazi death camps, in 2004.
She died at the age of 97.
