Luc Montagnier was a virologist from France.

He became interested in science at a young age, and after his grandfather died of colon cancer in 1947, he became interested in medical. He studied at the University of Poitiers before graduating with honours from the University of Paris in 1955.

After getting his MD in 1960, he taught physiology at the Sorbonne before joining the Medical Research Council in England.

Montagnier travelled to Glasgow in 1963 to pursue his research on cancers, when he and Ian MacPherson developed the technique of selectively cultivating cancer cells using agar jelly.

Montagnier returned to France in 1965 as the head of the laboratory at the Institut du Radium, where he applied his discoveries to the research of oncoviruses.

The team that discovered the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was led by Luc Antoine Montagnier, who shared the 2008 Nobel Prize with colleague Françoise Barré-Sinoussi.

He also co- founded the World Foundation and Prevention , which manages several African  research institutions.

They are however believed to have taken up the mantle of Science and continue to practice and research deeper into it till today.

Who is Luc Montagnier’s wife?

Caroline Dorothea Elisabeth Ackermann was the wife of this great man. She happened to be an actress back in the day.

She made her theatrical debut at the age of four as Annabella in Lessing’s Miss Sara Sampson.

She was most active between 1769 and 1778 with roles include Orsina, Minna von Barnhelm, and Marie in Götz von Berlichingen.

She later played Ophelia in Hamlet which was very well received.
