Nearly a week after fire engulfed the Tafo Moro market, Member of parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency, Honorable Vincent Ekow Assafuah has donated a cash amount of GHS 20,000 to the traders who lost their stalls and some belongings as part of efforts by his office to commiserate and solidarize with them.
The unfortunate incident saw the destruction of some stalls totaling 35, while efforts by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) helped to salvage some 215 others.
Speaking to some traders on Saturday morning, the member of Parliament assured them of support from his office and other stake holders to make sure they restore the market to its lost glory with efforts underway to lessen the burden of all those affected.
Presenting an amount of GHS 20,000, the MP expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to the traders for the confidence reposed in him by elevating him to the office of Member of Parliament to further their dreams and aspirations.
Honorable Assafuah also recounted how the Tafo Moro market had been part of his life since childhood, providing footwear to many people who resided within the constituency for decades.
The Tafo Moro Market has been a major trading hub for second-hand shoes, providing comfort to the feet of many who lived within and outside the Old Tafo Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Honorable Assafuah also took some time with his team and the traders to inspect and analyze the extent of the damage.
The cause of the fire is yet to be uncovered although close sources speculate it started in a chop bar closer to the market.
