Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum had a tough debut for Cercle Brugge in the Belgium Jupiler Pro League as they suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against Westerlo.
The midfielder, who is on loan from Red Bull Salzburg, played the full 90 minutes alongside his fellow Ghanaian Francis Abu in midfield but could not prevent their team from succumbing to a loss.
Despite the disappointing result, Agyekum put on a solid performance in his European debut for Cercle Brugge. The home team opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Lucas Stassin and went into halftime with the lead. Westerlo continued their dominance in the second half, with Stassin scoring his second goal in the 55th minute and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh adding a third goal in the 63rd minute.
With the addition of Agyekum, the Belgian league now boasts 11 Ghanaian players, showcasing the increasing presence of Ghanaian talent in the country. Agyekum, who only recently joined Cercle Brugge, has already started to make an impact with his new team.
Despite the challenging start, Agyekum will be looking to bounce back and showcase his talent in the upcoming fixtures for Cercle Brugge. Ghanaian football fans will be eagerly watching his progress in the Belgium Jupiler Pro League as he continues to adapt to his new surroundings.
