The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the Council of State to step up and fulfill its responsibilities in the best interest of the nation.
Speaking to NDC supporters during the party’s campaign launch in Tamale, Nketia emphasized the current crisis facing the country and stressed the importance of the Council of State taking decisive action.
“We are heading into a critical election period. The Council of State should not just be there to praise the president. Their role is to provide advice and guidance, especially in times when we may have a president who is not compliant. It is crucial for them to stand up and be accountable for their duties,” he stated.
Nketia warned that if the Council of State fails to perform effectively, they will face the consequences in the near future.
In addition, he also called on the National Peace Council to live up to its name by speaking the truth and addressing any potential threats to peace.
“We did not establish the Peace Council to appease the emotions of the oppressed or guarantee the peace of the oppressor. Their role is to identify and address any signs of trouble before they escalate. It is important for them to be proactive and courageous in their actions for the sake of peace and stability in the country,” Nketia added.
As the country prepares for the upcoming elections, the calls for accountability and proactive leadership from key institutions like the Council of State and the National Peace Council are more significant than ever. It remains to be seen how these entities will respond to the challenges highlighted by Nketia.
