Donald Trump has chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The former self-proclaimed “never Trumper” is a father of three children and is married to Usha Chilukuri.
J.D. Vance and Usha Chilukuri first crossed paths while studying at Yale Law School. The couple tied the knot in 2014 and have since welcomed three children into their family: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
Vance, who rarely talks about his children in the public eye, made a heartfelt mention of his son Vivek during a Senate debate in February 2024. He expressed his regret at missing Vivek’s fourth birthday and proceeded to read Dr. Seuss’ “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” as a belated birthday message.
The couple’s first child, Ewan, was born in June 2017, followed by Vivek in February 2020, and their daughter Mirabel in December 2021. Vance shared a touching photo of himself and Usha in the hospital, celebrating the birth of their “early Christmas present”.
Usha Chilukuri, born in 1986, has been a significant influence on Vance’s career. She showcased impressive leadership during her time at Yale Law School and has worked as a litigation associate for Munger, Tolles, & Olson. Usha, who is licensed to practice law in California, Ohio, and the District of Columbia, was raised in a Hindu household by Indian immigrants in San Diego, California.
In a 2020 interview on the Megyn Kelly Show podcast, Vance expressed his admiration for his accomplished wife, stating: “If I maybe get a little bit too cocky or a little too proud, I just remind myself that she is way more accomplished than I am.” He emphasized Usha’s brilliance and the role she plays in keeping him grounded.
As Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential candidate, J.D. Vance stands alongside his wife Usha and their three children, ready to embark on a new chapter in the upcoming presidential election.
