Hollywood’s Democratic donors turn away from Biden

President Joe Biden has promised Israel “ironclad” US support amid fears that Tehran could launch reprisals for an attack that killed senior Iranians. Hollywood has always been a cash cow for the Democratic Party.

However, unease over US President Joe Biden’s candidacy has not subsided, despite his recent lengthy news conference where he reiterated his intention to stay in the race despite mounting pressure from within his own party.

The concerns over his age have led some prominent A-list donors in a liberal corner of the US to withdraw their support and call for his replacement.

Even before George Clooney penned an opinion piece urging Mr. Biden to step aside, novelist and screenwriter Ayelet Waldman halted her donations to liberal candidates as a sign of her discontent.

Inspired by screenwriter Damon Lindelof, who called for a donation boycott until Biden exits the race, several Hollywood figures like Abigail Disney, John Cusack, and Stephen King have voiced similar sentiments.

The growing chorus of film industry surrogates signals a challenging situation for President Biden, who is also facing pressure from a increasing number of Democratic lawmakers who believe he should drop out of the race.

While some see this as a necessary move to ensure the Democratic Party’s success in the election, others criticize it as a distraction from the bigger threat of a second Trump presidency.

Despite the backlash from donors, President Biden has reiterated his commitment to staying in the race and defeating Trump in the November election.

However, some donors like Mark Pincus believe an open convention with a new candidate could be the Democratic Party’s best chance at success.

As the debate over Biden’s candidacy continues, the party faces a crucial decision on how to proceed to energize voters and secure a competitive position in the upcoming election.
