Former Athletic Club coach, Javier Clemente, has offered a humorous response to FC Barcelona’s interest in Nico Williams, suggesting that the Catalan club should wait until next year to sign the winger.
Barcelona’s pursuit of Williams has caused a stir among Athletic Club fans and president Jon Uriarte, who have expressed their disapproval of the speculation surrounding the player’s future. Uriarte has even called on the Royal Spanish Football Federation to step in and put an end to the rumors.
During an appearance on Cadena SER Catalunya’s ‘Qué t’hi jugues’, Clemente, who has coached both Athletic Club and the Spanish National Team, jokingly addressed the situation by alluding to Barcelona’s financial constraints.
When asked about the potential partnership between Williams and Lamine Yamal, Clemente quipped, “It’s hard to keep them together. What Barcelona can do is wait and buy Williams next year. This year, no, but next year. If the kid wants to go to Barcelona, he might not want to go to Barcelona.”
Despite suggestions that a deal could be finalized this summer, Clemente remained skeptical, saying, “Ah, well, I don’t know. If you have money, put the money in, and the kid says yes…”
Clemente’s sarcastic comments add a touch of humor to the ongoing saga of Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams, leaving fans wondering what the future holds for the talented winger.
