Ghanaian football icon, Asamoah Gyan, has urged Ghanaians to be patient with the newly formed Black Stars squad as they gear up to take on Mali and the Central Africa Republic (CAR) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The upcoming matches are set to be held on June 6th in Bamako and June 10th in Kumasi, respectively.

Beginning their journey in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers with one victory and one defeat, the Black Stars have had a mixed start. Nevertheless, Gyan is confident in the team’s potential and envisions them as contenders for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

In an interview with Peace FM, Gyan highlighted the need for patience as the team undergoes a rebuilding phase. “If we are patient with them and recognize that this is a new generation we are shaping, we can set a five-year plan. Winning Afcon is achievable, but even if we secure victory sooner, it will be a bonus because this is a fresh squad we are molding,” he explained.

Gyan stressed the importance of nurturing the young talents within the squad, noting their capabilities and bright future. “The players are young and talented, with immense potential. With patience and team-building, they can accomplish great things. Let’s support and encourage them as they grow and develop,” he concluded on a positive note.
