HOLLYWOOD and Broadway legend Janis Paige passed away at the notable age of 101. The talented actress died of natural causes at her Los Angeles home, as confirmed by her longtime friend Stuart Lampert.

During her illustrious career, Paige graced both the Broadway stage and the big screen. She famously starred alongside Jackie Cooper in the mystery-comedy “Remains to be Seen” and shared the spotlight with John Raitt in the beloved musical “The Pajama Game.” Her film credits included appearances in classics like “Bachelor in Paradise,” “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies,” and “Follow the Boys.”

In addition to her iconic performances, Paige used her platform to speak out against injustice. In 2018, she courageously added her voice to the #MeToo movement, sharing her experience of assault at the hands of Alfred Bloomingdale when she was just 22 years old. “At 95, time is not on my side, and neither is silence. I simply want to add my name and say, Me too,” she stated.

Paige’s journey to stardom began during wartime when she captivated servicemen with her operatic skills at the Hollywood Canteen. This led to her big break in Hollywood, where she started a contract at Warner Bros. and starred in films like “Hollywood Canteen” and “Angel on My Shoulder.”

Despite facing setbacks in her career due to the rise of television, Paige transitioned to Broadway, where she continued to captivate audiences with her performances. Her resilience and talent shone through as she took on various roles in productions like “Mame,” “Gypsy,” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Paige’s personal life was filled with love and loss. Throughout her lifetime, she had two brief marriages and was touched by tragedy with the passing of her husband, songwriter Ray Gilbert, in 1976.

Janis Paige’s legacy as a trailblazer in the entertainment industry will forever be remembered. Her remarkable talent, unwavering courage, and enduring spirit have left an indelible mark on Broadway and Hollywood alike. Rest in peace, Janis Paige.
