Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced the launch of the inaugural Democracy Cup in honor of the 30th anniversary of the legislature. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 6, 2024, with an exciting match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, July 5, 2024.
In addition to the highly anticipated football match, Members of Parliament will also be facing off against former Black Stars players in a curtain raiser. The winner of the game between the two premier league sides will earn the opportunity to play against United States-based club, DC United, in Washington.
Parliament is commemorating its 30th anniversary following the implementation of the 1992 Constitution, which affirmed the country’s democratic system of governance. To mark this milestone, various activities have been planned, including parliamentary sittings and debates, peace walks, and fun games.
