Dr Bawumia is an NDC man – Yaw Buabeng Asamoah

A leading member of the Movement for Change Party, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, has raised concerns about the political affiliations of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that his close ties to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and People’s National Convention (PNC) could be compromising his loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an interview on Yen Nsempa with Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Ekow JB, Asamoah suggested that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to make Bawumia his next of kin is akin to handing over power to the NDC.

Asamoah pointed out that Bawumia’s wife, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, hails from a family with strong PNC connections, while Bawumia himself was influenced by his father, a staunch NDC member. Despite being an economist by profession, Bawumia’s political grooming began within the NDC before his introduction to the NPP by President Akufo-Addo.

The Movement for Change member questioned the timing of Bawumia’s entry into the NPP and suggested that his rise within the party was primarily due to his economic expertise rather than his political heritage. He emphasized that Bawumia’s collaboration with NDC and PNC members could potentially compromise his allegiance to the NPP.

President Akufo-Addo’s faith in Bawumia’s ability to contribute to Ghana’s economic transformation was highlighted as the reason for his selection as Vice President. However, Asamoah’s concerns suggest that Bawumia’s political background may overshadow his economic credentials in the eyes of some stakeholders.
