Ghana’s Black Starlets Put on Dominant Display in WAFU B U17 Championship Opener
The Ghanaian Black Starlets started their campaign in the 2024 WAFU B U17 Championship on a high note with an impressive 5-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday afternoon.
Led by head coach Laryea Kingston, the Starlets put on a top performance at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in front of their home crowd. Midfielder Joseph Larbi was the standout player of the match, scoring twice to help secure the win for Ghana.
Larbi equalized in the 27th minute after a well-executed team play, giving the Black Starlets the lead. Before halftime, he struck again with a low drive to extend Ghana’s advantage going into the break.
Despite Côte d’Ivoire’s efforts to fight back in the second half, the Black Starlets remained in control of the game. The Ivorians managed to score a consolation goal, but additional strikes from Godfred Sarpong, Herve Gbafa, and Mark Kagawa Mensah sealed the deal for Ghana with a convincing 5-1 victory.
Looking ahead, the Black Starlets will now shift their focus to their upcoming match against Benin as they continue their quest for success in the WAFU B U17 Championship.
