Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, recently hosted Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, at a thrilling basketball game in Dakar, the capital city of Senegal.

The game featured Senegal’s AS Douanes and Rwanda’s APR Basketball Club, both competing in the prestigious Basketball Africa League.

This visit by President Kagame marks one of the first official visits to Senegal since President Faye, aged 44, was sworn in as the youngest democratically-elected leader in Africa back in April. The aim of President Kagame’s visit is to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and promote cooperation in various sectors such as trade, tourism, and governance, as stated by the Rwandan presidency.

The presence of these two influential leaders at the basketball game further cements the bond between Senegal and Rwanda, and highlights the importance of sports diplomacy in fostering international relations. It is a testament to the power of sports in bringing people together and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement and dialogue.
