Popular Nigerian actor and filmmaker, Femi Adebayo, has emerged victorious in a piracy case after a lengthy legal battle spanning three years.

The court awarded him a whopping ₦25 million, which is equivalent to GH¢346,177,500 in damages.

Taking to his Instagram page on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Adebayo shared the news of his triumph against a well-known media entity that was distributing his content on YouTube without permission.

The culprit had deceptively overlaid scenes from Adebayo’s 2019 film, “Survival of Jelili,” onto another video on the platform to mislead unsuspecting viewers.

Thanks to the unwavering determination of Adebayo and his legal team, led by Bola Adebowale & Co Legal Practitioners, they were able to present compelling evidence and mount a strong defense in court.

Their efforts paid off as they secured a favorable verdict and the substantial damages of twenty-five million naira.

In his statement, Adebayo highlighted the detrimental effects of piracy on the Nigerian film industry, citing how it hinders potential investments and limits growth opportunities.

He called for decisive measures to be taken against these “daredevil pirates” to safeguard the integrity and economic viability of the industry.
