Former Ghana international, CK Akonnor, has advised players to carefully evaluate their own abilities before deciding to join Hearts of Oak or Asante Kotoko.

In recent years, players who have made the move to these two prestigious clubs have struggled to meet the high expectations placed on them.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Akonnor stressed the importance of players understanding the pressures that come with playing for Hearts of Oak or Asante Kotoko. He urged individuals being pursued by these clubs to realistically assess their own skills and determine if they are prepared for the challenges that come with representing such big names in Ghanaian football.

Akonnor, who previously coached the Black Stars, highlighted the significance of personal development and readiness before making a career-defining decision to join Hearts of Oak or Asante Kotoko. He emphasized that players need to be mentally prepared to handle the demands and expectations that come with playing for these historic clubs.

Despite both clubs making significant recruitment efforts before the start of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, they have struggled to make an impact on the league standings. Hearts of Oak currently find themselves in 13th place with 35 points, while Asante Kotoko sit in 10th place with 40 points.

Akonnor’s advice serves as a valuable reminder to players considering a move to Hearts of Oak or Asante Kotoko to carefully evaluate their own abilities, mental preparedness, and readiness before accepting the challenge of playing for two of Ghana’s most revered football clubs.
