Ghanaian winger, Kwadwo Asamoah, proved to be the hero for FK Panevezys as they secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Suduva in the Lithuanian TOPsport A League last night.
The match took place at the Marijampolė Stadium, where Asamoah made a significant impact before being substituted after 65 minutes.
Heading into the game, FK Panevezys had a tough task ahead of them with Suduva having the upper hand in their head-to-head record. However, despite Suduva enjoying more possession, it was FK Panevezys who managed to create more scoring opportunities throughout the match.
The first half saw the home side dominating proceedings, with Jeffrey Sarpong, Kwadwo Asamoah, and Matijs Remeikis all coming close to finding the back of the net. Asamoah, in particular, was unlucky not to score with his efforts narrowly missing the target.
It wasn’t until the 59th minute that FK Panevezys finally managed to break the deadlock. A swift counter-attack led to Ernesto Veliulis’ shot being saved by the Suduva goalkeeper, only for Asamoah to pounce on the rebound and give his team the lead.
Asamoah’s goal proved to be the match-winner, securing three crucial points for FK Panevezys. The victory marked Asamoah’s eighth appearance in the league this season, where he has managed to find the back of the net once.
