Oko-Boye touts health sector’s achievements during a visit to Tema General Hospital

Dr. Bernard Oko-Boye, the President’s representative at the Ministry of Health, recently visited the Tema General Hospital to discuss the government’s efforts in improving healthcare delivery. ‘

During his visit, Dr. Oko-Boye emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services for all citizens. One of the key areas highlighted was the prioritization of modern information and communication technology to effectively respond to public health threats and manage patient data.

Under his leadership, the Ministry of Health has collaborated with development partners to implement the Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS) nationwide. This initiative has significantly improved disease control and outbreak management procedures, with impressive achievements including a 97.5% timeliness and 88.6% completeness for surveillance reports.

Dr. Oko-Boye also discussed the implementation of the LightWave Health Information Management System, which provides real-time data access for informed healthcare delivery. Additionally, he emphasized the government’s focus on the integration of modern technology, such as eHealth and telemedicine initiatives, to transform healthcare delivery.

Furthermore, Dr. Oko-Boye commended the Ghana Health Service’s e-learning platform for continuous professional development, making learning accessible to all health professionals. He also highlighted Ghana’s efficient management of the COVID-19 pandemic, increased vaccination coverage, and notable achievements in reducing malaria-related deaths and improving postnatal care coverage.

The government’s commitment to revamp healthcare infrastructure was underscored, with the completion and ongoing construction of various health facilities across the country. Projects include the completion of phase two of the University of Ghana Medical Center, the rollout of urology and kidney transplant services, and the professionalization of regional and district hospitals.
