The Economy and Finance Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns about the current state of affairs in Ghana, accusing the government of neglecting the welfare of its citizens in favor of political maneuvering.

Dr. Sharif Mahmud Khalid, a member of the committee, expressed his worries about the ongoing power outages and the adverse effects it has on the people of the country.

In an interview on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show with Johnnie Hughes, Dr. Khalid criticized the government for taking the citizens for granted and playing politics with critical issues such as the power crisis. He emphasized that Ghanaians have endured enough and deserve better treatment from their leaders.

Dr. Khalid shared his personal experience of having to work from a coffee shop due to the lack of electricity at his home during the power outages. He highlighted the challenges faced by many Ghanaians, including rising costs of living, high fuel prices, and the additional burden of power cuts. He also criticized the government’s excuses for the outages and questioned their priorities of expenditure.

The committee member called for accountability from the government and urged them to address the root causes of the crisis. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the severity of the situation and taking concrete steps to provide a solution to the ongoing power outages.

Dr. Khalid concluded by pointing out the contrast in how Ghanaians reacted during the energy crisis under the previous administration and the current situation. He noted the lack of street demonstrations and the plea for a simple timetable from the government, highlighting the disappointment and disrespect felt by the people towards the current government’s handling of the energy crisis.

As the country continues to grapple with power outages, it is essential for the government to listen to the concerns raised by its citizens and take decisive action to resolve the crisis. Accountability, transparency, and a genuine commitment to addressing the root causes of the issue are necessary steps towards restoring trust and confidence in the leadership.
