The stage is set for the highly anticipated 2024 WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament, scheduled to take place in Accra from May 15th to May 29th.
The prestigious University of Ghana Sports Stadium has been selected as the venue for the event, adding to the excitement surrounding the competition.
This tournament holds immense significance as it will serve as the qualifying platform for the 2024 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, providing young talents with the opportunity to represent their countries on the continental stage. Ghana’s Black Starlets will headline Group A, facing off against tough competition from Cote D’Ivoire and Benin, while Group B will feature powerhouses Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo.
To ensure that all teams are well-prepared for the tournament, four training pitches have been designated for their use. These training grounds, including the Athletics Oval field, the Mensah Sarbah field, and The Union Ghana soccer field, are all conveniently located within the University of Ghana campus.
The University of Ghana Sports Stadium, which was recently commissioned on March 2, 2024, has already proven its capability to host prestigious football events. Just a couple of months ago, it successfully hosted two matches of the Africa Games Men’s Football tournament, showcasing its world-class facilities and infrastructure.
With its strategic location, football enthusiasts in and around the University of Ghana and nearby suburbs such as Okponglo, Madina, Haatso, East Legon, Bawaleshie, and Achimota are eagerly anticipating the start of the tournament.
