The National Communications Authority (NCA) has given the green light to Space X Starlink GH LTD to provide Satellite Broadband Services in Ghana.

This approval comes after the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation signed off on the satellite licensing framework in Ghana.

According to a brief statement released by the NCA on Thursday, April 25, the process for issuing the license to Starlink Satellite Broadband is currently underway and will be finalized soon. The deal, which involves a foreign entity acquiring a significant stake in Ghana’s telecommunications infrastructure, underwent thorough examination to ensure compliance with existing regulatory frameworks and its potential to improve service delivery and innovation in the industry.

Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, informed Parliament about the government’s plan to license Starlink’s application in an effort to address internet disruptions in the country. She highlighted that Starlink was in the licensing process and urged other operators to establish a presence in Ghana.

In addition to approving Starlink’s application, Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful suggested operationalizing RASCOM, the Regional African Satellite Company, as a collective effort to enhance internet connectivity in the region.
