President Akufo-Addo has hit back at critics who have doubted the government’s efforts towards national development since he took office.
During a speech at the commissioning ceremony of the Anwomaso Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant, the President urged Ghanaians to recognize and appreciate the work being done to move the country forward.
He expressed his hope that those who are not acknowledging the government’s developmental efforts will have their eyes opened to see and appreciate the progress being made. The President also highlighted that the construction of the thermal plant was entirely funded by the Volta River Authority (VRA).
The African and Middle Eastern Resource Investment (AMERI) Company has officially handed over the 10-unit power plants to the government of Ghana after completing a five-year “built, own, operate, and transfer” arrangement. The VRA made the decision to relocate the thermal power plants to their current location in an effort to address the issues of erratic power supply in the Ashanti Region.
President Akufo-Addo commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), and the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) for their contributions to the successful completion of the project.
He emphasized that VRA provided all the necessary funds for the construction of the station, covering expenses such as land acquisition, permits, environmental and social impact studies, civil works, and commissioning of the plant.
