German-born Ghanaian defender Anton Donkor is on the verge of joining FC Schalke 04 for the upcoming season, pending the team’s ability to maintain their position in the Bundesliga 2.

Despite a crucial 2-0 victory over Nuremberg over the weekend, Schalke’s status in the league remains uncertain. The potential addition of Donkor, who currently plays for Eintracht Braunschweig, could provide a much-needed boost to the Royal Blues.

According to reports from BILD, the 26-year-old left-back is set to make the move to North Rhine-Westphalia as his contract with Braunschweig is set to expire this summer. This means he could join Schalke without the need for a transfer fee.

Donkor joined Braunschweig two years ago from SV Waldhof Mannheim and has since made 62 appearances for the team, missing only one game this season. However, if Schalke is relegated to the third division, the contract may be voided.

The potential addition of Donkor to the squad could be a significant move for Schalke, providing them with added depth and quality in defense for the upcoming season. Fans will be eagerly awaiting confirmation of the transfer as the team fights to secure their spot in the Bundesliga 2.
