Renowned former Ghanaian footballer and captain, Asamoah Gyan, has revealed that he has been approached numerous times in the past to consider running for a Member of Parliament position.
The Ghanaian all-time leading goal scorer highlighted his influence and contributions to the country as the motivation behind these offers.
In an interview with Onua TV, Gyan acknowledged the consistent requests for him to venture into politics, attributing it to his impact and societal contributions. Despite the pressure from various quarters, Gyan made it clear that any decision to delve into politics would be solely his own and not influenced by external forces.
“The idea of becoming a Member of Parliament has been suggested to me for quite some time now, spanning over a decade. Even during my active playing days, the topic would always come up. Now that I have retired from football and I am back home, the option is definitely open to me if I decide to pursue it,” Gyan said.
Gyan’s current role as the chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto committee has positioned him to play a significant role in shaping sports policies for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the upcoming December 7 elections. country.
