Former President John Dramani Mahama has been honored with the prestigious 2024 Africa Advancement Award for Exemplary Leadership at the African Heritage Awards (AHA) 2024 event in Lagos, Nigeria.
The award was in recognition of his contribution to Ghana’s democracy and his peaceful transfer of power after losing the 2016 general elections.
The Chairman of Heritage Times, the organizers of the awards, Mr. Moses Siasia, stated that the event was designed to celebrate and acknowledge outstanding achievements of Africans in various fields such as Business, Politics, Philanthropy, Entertainment & Arts, Culture, Science & Technology, and Social Innovation.
Among the nominees listed alongside Mr. Mahama were notable individuals like African-American billionaire philanthropist Robert F. Smith, former President of Liberia Dr. George Weah, and First Lady of Kenya Mama Rachael Ruto. The Prime Minister of Togo, Victoire Tomegah Dogbe, and Managing Director of the Rose of Sharon Group Folorunsho Alakija were also recognized.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mahama dedicated the award to his team for their hard work during challenging times in the country, including power and economic crises.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reflect on his past eight years as president and vowed to use the inspiration from the award to make improvements in his future endeavors.
