I never thought I could post my works online and earn money – Hammer

Veteran Ghanaian music producer Edward Nana Poku Osei, often known as ‘Hammer’, has revealed that he was not privy to promoting and profiting from his work on digital music outlets.

According to him, when rapper Joey B approached him about publishing his music online, he declined until he had a complete education on the platforms available and what he could do to profit from them.

Speaking on Capital FM, he remarked, “Do you know who forced me join digital platforms? It was Joey B. Joey B contacted me once and said, ‘Hammer, I’m not seeing your works on Spotify or Apple Music; what should I do?’ And I’m like, what should I do with this? He suggested I should place it on there.”

Hammer stated that he disregarded the instruction and continued to sell bread until Ghanaian artist Worlasi began spreading his works on these sites for him.

Hammer stated that the money he was generating from the bread company gave him no motivation to publish his work.

“I didn’t mind then. I was selling bread, which is what I ate. I acquired three autos in a single year. These were not little automobiles; I’m referring about my Jeep and others. The bread tasted wonderful.

“So he told me I needed to publish my work online. So Worlasi referred me to a distributor, who then became my major distributor, and that’s how I went on all this.
