Leading figures in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have stated that former President John Dramani Mahama trusted Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s integrity, modesty, intelligence, and ability to work as a team when selecting her as his running mate for the December 7 presidential election.
The astute academician, who is Ghana’s first female Vice-Chancellor, is seen as more than just a compromise pick from the rumored list of deserving candidates. She is also seen as a unifying force, an appealing figure in the academic community both locally and internationally, and a response to affirmative action at the highest echelons of local politics.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang added that Mr. Mahama has shown constancy, an enduring dedication to diversity and creativity, and a believe in the Ghanaian woman, only moments after the party released a statement announcing her nomination.
She issued a statement saying, “I am not one to take lightly the confidence reposed in me, nor am I oblivious to the national decay and widespread despondency in the country.”
In order to serve Ghanaians with “integrity, dignity, truthfulness, hard-work, and patriotism to reposition our dear country as a beacon of hope and opportunity,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated that she was ready and committed to working with Mr. Mahama.
She thanked the National Executive Committee, the NDC Council of Elders, the party’s membership, friends, and all Ghanaians for their endorsement and support.
According to a statement released yesterday and signed by the NDC’s general secretary, Fifi Kwetey, Professor Opoku-Agyemang is a respected leader and academic who is well-known for her commitment to public service and education.
The NDC clarified that her nomination demonstrated the party’s steadfast dedication to diversity, inclusivity, and the advancement of women in leadership positions.
It said, “Professor Opoku-Agyemang brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the NDC’s presidential ticket. He possesses extensive qualifications and experience.”
According to the statement, Mr. Mahama had expressed faith in his running mate. “I am proud to have Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as my running mate,” Mr. Mahama was quoted as saying.
Her honesty, commitment, and dream of a better Ghana make her the perfect choice to work with me to steer our party toward success in the next elections.
