Major outage causes thousands of Facebook users to experience app crash

Facebook users experienced widespread issues with the Messenger app, as thousands of reports flooded in around 3pm UK time. The problem also affected Meta’s other apps, including Instagram.

The outage led to over 50,000 complaints on Down Detector, a platform that monitors service outages. Users were randomly logged out of their accounts and struggled to log back in. Meta, the company that owns Facebook, acknowledged the problem and assured users that they were working to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Frustrated users took to social media to express their concerns, with one user writing, “Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are all down! What in the world are we going to do????” Another user lamented, “Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are down. Goodbye social media. Ooops.”

To check if the issue was widespread, users were advised to use DownDetector, which offered a live outage map and allowed users to report their problems. Meta also shared service updates on its service status page.

As the outage persisted, users were left wondering how long it would take for the issue to be resolved. Hopefully, the technical team at Meta can fix the problem soon so that users can get back to connecting with their friends and family seamlessly on Messenger.
