Legendary sports journalist Chris Mortensen passed away at the age of 72 just months after retiring from ESPN.

Known for his award-winning football coverage, Mortensen’s legacy lives on through his son, Alex Mortensen, who followed in his father’s footsteps in the world of football.

Unlike Chris, who never played football past high school, Alex pursued his passion for the game by playing college and professional football before transitioning into coaching.

He began his journey at the University of Arkansas, then moved to Samford University before returning to Arkansas Razorbacks.

Despite going undrafted in the NFL, Alex signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent.

Although his NFL career was short-lived, Alex found his calling as a coach.

He served as a Passing Game Coordinator for New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys, a coaching assistant for the St. Louis Rams, and eventually became the wide receivers coach for the Birmingham Iron in the Alliance of American Football.

After the AAF folded, Alex continued his coaching career and was named Offensive Coordinator for the University of Alabama Blazers.

Recognized for his coaching prowess, he was nominated for the prestigious Broyles Award for the nation’s top assistant coach.

Chris Mortensen’s passing was a loss to the sports community, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and friends.

His legacy lives on through his son Alex, who continues to make a mark in the world of football coaching.
