Erling Folkvord, a personal friend of the Kurdish community and a former member of the Norwegian Parliament and Oslo City Council, departed from this life on March 7, 2019, in Stockholm.

In Trøndelag, Norway’s Levanger district is where Folkvord was born. Having been involved in politics since the 1960s, he served as the Norwegian Workers’ Communist Party’s deputy leader from 1990 until 1997.

He joined the Red Electoral Alliance in 1999, which later changed its name to the Red Party, and was elected as an Oslo city councilor. During the Red Party era, he was a member of parliament from 1993 until 1997.

After visiting Rojava as well, Erling Folkvord penned a book titled “Kurdish people in Rojava struggling for a future without Assad, without ISIS, without Erdogan.” He writes for numerous websites and Medya News.

Folkvord, who has published fifteen books to date, most recently visited Stockholm as part of a book project focusing on Palestine and Kurdistan.
