Three days after losing the love of her life, Joyce Lapinsky expressed her gratitude to Richard Lewis’ many fans and suggested a way they could remember him.
“This is Joyce, Richard’s wife,” Lapinsky shared on her husband’s social media page. “Thank you for your loving tributes. He would be beyond thrilled and so touched, as am I.
In response to the many queries, I know Richard would appreciate donations in his memory to the Los Angeles-based charity or the charity of your choice.”
Comedy Gives Back, a nonprofit organization aimed at assisting comedians in need, created a safety net for the community.
According to People magazine, Lewis and Lapinsky first met in 1998 at a Ringo Starr album release party. They got engaged in 2004 and tied the knot the following year. Ringo Starr himself paid tribute to Lewis by sharing a photo of the trio and sending his blessings to Joyce.
Lewis also honored Lapinsky before his passing by posting a photo of them together with the caption, “Keaton had his Eleanor, I have my Joyce.”
The comparison was made to Eleanor Keaton, Buster Keaton’s wife, who played a significant role in reviving the silent star’s career and preserving his legacy after his death.
The connection between Lewis and Lapinsky blossomed after Richard had overcome substance abuse issues. In 2010, he reflected on their relationship, saying, “I’ve found peace and serenity.
On stage, I still mine my bottomless pit of bad memories…In real life, I’m still crazy, but I’m far happier and more grateful than I’ve ever been.”
The impact of Lewis’ passing has left a void in the comedy world, but his memory will live on through the fond recollections and charitable donations made in his honor.
