Actor Kwadwo Nkansah, better known by his stage name LilWin, is from Ghana. He has addressed backlash against his decision to cast Ramsey Nouah and other non-white actors in his film “A Country Called Ghana.”
He claims that the reason he chose to cast performers from Nigeria is that he wants his upcoming film to be recognized internationally.
He used the example of how some American films have performers from China and India to support his assertion, and he said he used a similar strategy to plan his next film.
In an interview with Power FM that GhanaWeb listened to, LilWin bemoaned the criticism he had received for including Nollywood stars in his film and gave an explanation for his choice.
“Many people are wondering why I worked with Nigerian artists, but the reality is that the film won’t work without big names from abroad. Chinese and Indian actors have occasionally appeared in American motion pictures. So why are people upset because I included Nigerian performers in my film?
“I don’t comprehend. Is it possible to include all Ghanaian actors in a single film? No. Therefore, when I upload it to Netflix, it’s not just for Ghanaians to see; it’s meant for viewers worldwide as well, so if you want to create progress, you have to highlight foreigners.
“Because they want to be known worldwide, Nigerian musicians collaborate with foreign celebrities like Chris Brown, Eminem, and others, he stated.
He made this statement in response to concerns expressed by Mr. Logic and other prominent figures in the creative arts community on LilWin’s choice to cast Nigerian actors in the film “A Country Called Ghana” at the expense of Ghanaians.
