Rapper Kwaw Kese, from Ghana, plans to file a lawsuit against the Ghana Police Service for imprisoning him due to allegations that he used marijuana.
The “Abodam” crooner said he feels humiliated after being fined GHc1,200 and given a day’s jail sentence in 2015 for consuming marijuana in public during an interview with Daybreak Hitz.
He claims to have evidence showing the Ghana Police ignored Jamaican musician Popcaan’s public marijuana use.
He clarified that he was imprisoned but that “the foreigner was protected and spared,” despite the fact that Ghana Police has any image or video proof to back up their allegations against him.
“I was jailed for it and the same police that arrested me are now guarding someone to smoke in public and that person goes scot-free. If that is so, then I have to be compensated; it’s not fair. Ghana Police didn’t treat me right, and I think the system has not been fair to me,” he told Andy Dosty.
When asked how much money he wants from the Police for allegedly denting his reputation, he simply said “one million dollars.”
Kwaw Kese has voiced his disapproval of the Popcaan incident on previous occasions.
Kwaw Kese expressed his disappointment on social media after Popcaan stuck his head out the sunroof to let fans see him smoking during his 2020 tour of Ghana as part of the #YearofReturn program.
He said that the police present at the scene did not make an arrest of him.
