A 30-year-old salesman has stood before an Accra Circuit Court accused of stealing GH₵61,000 from his employer, a pastor.

Evans Odunu is charged with embezzling money from the sales of spare parts he supplied to clients. Odunu, who is accused of stealing twice, has entered a not guilty plea.

Mrs. Afia Owusua Appiah, the court’s presider, granted Odunu bail in the amount of GH₵85,000, along with two sureties, citing justification. The case will now take place on March 26, 2024.

The complainant, Rev. John Blewube, was a pastor and businessman, according to the prosecution, which was led by Inspector Nana Akua Boatemah. Odunu, also known as Kojo, works as a salesperson at the complainant’s store in Abossey Okai.

The prosecution claimed that on December 22, 2022, Odunu sold shock and hub spare parts for Hyundai Accent, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Sonata, Honda Civic, Pilot and Fit, and Toyota Camry for GH₵15,00, but he did not give the complainant an accounting.

According to Inspector Boatemah, on November 6, 2023, the complainant discovered that the accused individual had sold the engines from the following vehicles: a 2003 Nissan Altima, a 2008 Rio model, a 2010 Kia Forte, and Santafe models from 2010 and 2005, for a total of GH₵GHC46,000.

Odunu could not furnish accounts, according to the prosecution. Investigations revealed that the aforementioned spare components, valued at GHC15,000, had been sold; nevertheless, the accused claimed that the funds had been pilfered.

Regarding the GH₵46,000 worth of spare parts, the defendant said that although a client had purchased them, he had not been able to track down the buyer.

The prosecution claimed that the accused was unable to direct the police to the aforementioned customer’s home or place of business.
