A young man going by the name Augustine has described how he survived a horrific acid attack that was allegedly planned by his ex-girlfriend.
In an interview with GhPage TV, Augustine, who is now 25 years old, related his experience and described the circumstances that led up to the occurrence.
He disclosed that he went to Dubai to work as a financial advisor after graduating from high school, earning enough money to sustain himself and others.
His former lover from his high school days was one of the people he tried to help complete her education and enhance her chances in life.
He claimed that the woman had lost interest in the relationship, so he decided to end it but pledged to continue funding her studies.
He had no idea that this choice would set off a horrifying act of violence.
Augustine said his ex-girlfriend paid someone to saturate him with acid just days before he left Ghana.
He was hospitalized for about three months after the incident, suffering from severe burns.
In a terrifying turn of events, Augustine revealed that, although in severe pain, he yelled out his ex-girlfriend’s name and recognized the attacker’s voice during the attack.
Luckily, he received emergency medical assistance at Okomfo Anokye Hospital when passersby hurried him there.
Augustine gave the authorities the perpetrator’s identification despite his wounds, which resulted in the man’s arrest and eventual conviction.
The attacker received a ten-year prison sentence after it was reported that they carried out the attack using an autorickshaw, known as “Pra Gyia” in the local dialect.
Augustine’s recovery from the psychological and physical trauma has not diminished his resolve to pursue justice.
