At a news conference to discuss global economic disparities, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration said, “If you think rent is expensive in Ghana, go to Canada and see.”
The declaration is made amid mounting worries about rising living expenses worldwide, especially in affluent nations like Canada.
Shirley Botchway asserted that her observations were supported by the data and comparative analysis she had obtained from meetings and diplomatic interactions with Ghanaians residing outside.
She emphasized that although rent in Ghana could be costly for certain individuals, it is not nearly as costly as rent in Canadian cities such as Toronto and Vancouver.
Many Ghanaians expressed disbelief at the disparity in housing affordability between the two countries, which sparked discussions.
In response, a few individuals chastised her for drawing comparisons between Ghana and Canada when, in reality, their circumstances are dissimilar.
