Recently, Adu Boakye, a father of four from Ghana who immigrated to Toronto, Canada, was shot and killed.

Adu Boakye was shot and died over the weekend was standing at a bus stop in the neighborhood of Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue on Saturday, February 17th 2024.

One day after a 16-year-old girl was shot on Friday while waiting for a bus to go to a volleyball match, there was another shooting in the same neighborhood. This seemingly senseless act of violence happened again in a 24-hour period.

This has led police to suspect gang-related violence to be the cause of the shootings, although they’ve cleared the two victims of any gang affiliations.

“Our investigation thus far has revealed there is no relationship between Mr. Boakye and the individual, or individuals, who shot him,” Det. Phillip Campbell told reporters.

“Mr. Boakye was shot while lawfully going about his business, just like the victim shot the day before.”

The victims in both shooting events were standing outside a nearby bus stop when an unidentified suspect opened fire on them.

According to investigators, there is a connection between the shootings.

Campbell restated that there are “hallmarks of gang activity” in the consecutive shootings.

He continued by saying that “nothing” in their probe to yet suggests that either victim was a member of a gang.

According to Campbell, a suspected stolen car that was driven by the suspect—or suspects—in both cases was subsequently discovered abandoned in Hamilton.

In an attempt to identify a suspect, police on Tuesday made public surveillance photos of him.

Authorities have characterized him as a thin-built Black male between the ages of 18 and 25, last seen wearing black shoes, black pants, black coat, white sweatshirt, black face covering, and maybe a white surgical mask.

A black Acura RDX that may have been observed in the vicinity prior to or following the shootings is being sought by investigators. This is because a suspected stolen car that was driven by the suspect or suspects in both events was subsequently discovered abandoned in Hamilton.
