In a heartwarming display of cooperation and kindness, the Ghana Association of Sports Betting Operators (GASBO) has offered assistance to areas of the country, including the Volta Region, that have been severely damaged by recent floods.

Known for its work in the gaming industry, the organization has shifted its focus from odds and bets to humanitarian relief, supplying food supplies and educational materials to flood victims in five districts.

In the wake of the recent floods brought on by the Akosombo Dam spill, homes have been destroyed, livelihoods have been disrupted, and families have been forced to relocate.

The Ghana Association of Sports Betting Operators realized that help was desperately needed in the face of this misfortune and gathered its resources to provide aid to those who were most impacted.

In her remarks, President Dr. Kobby Boateng of GASBO emphasized the organization’s commitment to providing assistance to those in need during these difficult times and conveyed her deep concern for the state of the flood victims.

“As members of the Ghanaian community, it is our responsibility to help one another when we are in need,” Mr. Boateng said. “We duly recognize the importance of lending a helping hand and offering support to those who have been impacted by this natural disaster.”

Five districts—Tokpo in the Shai Osudoku District, Azizanya in the Ada District, Mepe in the North Tongu District, Bakpa in the Central Tongu District, and Anyako in the Keta Municipality—were severely impacted by the floods. In partnership with local authorities, GASBO coordinated the donation drive.

The basic foods that were included in the relief packages that were distributed included rice, cooking oil, canned goods, and bottled water, ensuring that families would have access to supplies during their relocation.

Recognizing the disruption to education caused by the floods, GASBO also provided textbooks, stationery, and other educational resources to the affected communities.

By encouraging education, the association hopes to mitigate the long-term effects of the disaster on children’s and youths’ academic development in the affected areas.

The residents expressed how much they appreciated GASBO’s quick action, highlighting the value of group support in difficult circumstances.

“We are incredibly grateful to GASBO for their generosity and kindness,” Ami Mensah, a resident of a region affected by flooding, said.

“Our community finds solace and hope in their assistance as we rebuild and recover from the devastation caused by the floods.”

An example of the strength of group effort is the humanitarian project carried out by the Ghana Association of Sports Betting Operators.

It illustrates the critical role that private organizations can play in solving societal issues.

The support provided by GASBO acts as a ray of hope for the communities affected by the floods as they begin their road to recovery, encouraging cooperation and fortitude in the face of hardship.
