Mohammed Amin Adam, the recently appointed Finance Minister, has vowed to actively pursue income mobilization to strengthen the nation’s finances and achieve spending goals.

In an interview on Thursday, Amin Adam, who was chosen by President Akufo-Addo to succeed Ken Ofori-Atta on Wednesday, February 14, described his plan.

Amin Adam expressed his commitment to the work at hand and made it clear that he intended to work closely with organizations that mobilize revenue to increase the nation’s revenue streams.

He recognized that strong financial underpinnings are essential to solving citizens’ economic problems and guaranteeing sustained development.

“Revenue collection will be pursued aggressively, So you are going to see me moving around the revenue centers, the ports, the airport, and the market areas to encourage the staff of GRA to collect more revenue but also to institute a friendly approach to collecting revenue.

“We have heard that people are being harassed, all these are going to be streamlined so that you have a friendly approach and also we will get the GRA to introduce a faceless assessment system to ensure that we maximize revenue collection…and to be able to meet our expenditure target.”

In addition, he promised to make sure the government “holds the line” on spending and guarantees value for money on projects, according to host Bernard Avle.

The appointment of Amin Adam coincides with a larger reorganization of the cabinet that witnessed the departure of some important ministers who had been in the Akufo-Addo administration for more than seven years.

The reorganization resulted in the removal of Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako Attah, Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, and Interior Minister Ambrose Dery.
