However, it was revealed that, when Willibrord Davids was the chairman of the committee that investigated the Iraq issue, does not see any reason to adjust the conclusions in Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s response. He said in the current affairs program Nova after Balkenende had disputed several crucial findings earlier in the day.
For example, the Prime Minister distanced himself from the conclusion that the international law mandate for the American-British invasion of Iraq in 2003 was insufficient. Balkenende emphasized that there are still different opinions about this then and now. According to Davids, the Prime Minister suggested that the opinion of experts on international law is ‘about fifty-fifty’.
