Monsignor Paul Simeon Ahouanan Djro passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, in Abidjan. He was 72 years old. The Catholic community is in sorrow. There is a great vacuum left by his leaving after 28 years of devotion to the Church.

Born in Bingerville, Ivory Coast on December 19, 1952, my lord Ahouanan devoted his life to serving God and his society.
He was ordained as a priest in the Franciscan order on July 19, 1981, and progressed through the ranks of the Church to become the metropolitan archbishop of Bouake in September 2006 after being appointed bishop of Yamoussoukro in 1995.
Apart from his fervent religious beliefs, Monsignor Ahouanan was instrumental in facilitating the process of reconciliation in Côte d’Ivoire.
In fact, he was given the responsibility of carrying on the work started by the Dialogue, Truth and Reconciliation Commission when he was named head of the National Commission for Reconciliation and Compensation for Victims in March 2015.
